Ray, this piece is terrific. It is a testament to what an excellent writer you are that you can take this subject and turn it into something that is so original and so much fun to read. Now back to Pledging My Time. Yesterday’s favorite takeaways were the Zappa bus loan and the voices inside Gerry Goffin’s head leading to songwriting credits for Bob.
Criminy! Every time I think, "I'M a pretty invested Dylan fan, I am reminded what a piker I am by comparison to, even some rando in the audience on a tape of a PRE-SHOW 'noodle,' of an obscure Irish folk ballad (i.e. 'Foggy Dew?"), and picked up by someone listening closely enough to pick out the rando's question...
One of your best posts Ray - really enjoyed it. (Though I enjoy them all! )
Hearing You Ain’t Goin Nowhere and The Auld Triangle in the same post made me wonder - has anyone collected all the various live versions of songs from the Basement Tapes? Obviously some have been done often - I Shall be Released, Tears of Rage, Crash on the Levee - but surely there have been some rare ones here and there - I was lucky to be at MSG in 2002 for the live debut of Yea! Heavy and a Bottle of Bread. I wonder which ones I have missed over the years. Thanks for everything!
Nice compilation! That first Dresden opener seems a mix up between Pill box hat and Watching the River flow. Was that the way he used to play it in 2012?

Doodles, Dew-das, and the Doo-dah man himself Stephen Foster--love it, Ray! Thanks for the shout-out, too.
Concerning the final question asked within the 2015 section: am I the only one who hears "Deep Elam Blues"?

THIS is why I pays me money here!
