One of the best shows I’ve ever been to was Dickie Betts (and Great Southern was it?) at a theater in Rhode Island. I wasn’t expecting it but he had the crowd ecstatic. Even he seemed to be a bit stunned by the enthusiasm. My memory is he threw his hat into the audience when he left. I wondered if someone in the crew had to scramble to get it back to him. An exhilarating night.
I saw Dickey put on an excellent show 15 or 20 years ago at the Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach, DE. He was really good that night and I was impressed as I didn’t know what to expect so late in the game. R.I.P
I loved that story about Dylan knowing "Ramblin' Man" right off the bat. Of course, he seems to know every song that's ever been sung, but you could say why the late Mr. Dickie Betts would have gotten a kick out of it.
Ray you really have outdone yourself. That was a wonderful tribute. That clip of bob and Dickey doing rambling was a first for me. It took me back to another time. Wow. Thanks.
I saw Allman Brothers in Hershey Arena in 75 …. Amazing show - the kind that was small enough to sit in the seats, get up and walk to the floor and jam.. those were definitely THE DAYS
Guess I must have seen and heard Dickie play since I saw the Allman Brothers Band in college, even though I'd never heard of them. My date was an Easterner, my university in Santa Barbara, CA.

The show I saw would have been mid to late 70’s
Figured that when you mentioned Great Southern.

I’ll read this article when I have more time but what a bummer Dickie died. Thanks for the intel.
Catching up on my reading and have to say, your ability to capture the backstories is a gift. Thanks for that.
Such a great piece. Makes me like Betts even more. Cheers. And long live the kings in our hearts and minds.
