This piece really takes me back, as the Carter administration neatly coincided with my early teenage years. I wasn't much of a Dylan head yet (Street Legal was a bit over my head) but it was still cool to realize the president was a fan.
I'm reminded of the SNL sketch where Dan Aykroyd's Carter was on a radio call-in show and talks a kid down from a bad acid trip - iirc he advised him to put on some Allmans - and realize what a different time that was to be young.
It was years before I fully grasped the level of cultural whiplash older fans must've felt going from that era to a few years later with Reagan in the White House and Bob preaching from the stage.
Wow. I only have a few idols, and the number of them who are living (at least as of today) are very few. This article is about two of them. Amazing that this first meeting was 50 years ago today. Thank you for covering this Ray.
